I recall hearing somewhere that your organization is only as effective as it’s board of directors. Oh, how true this is. If you haven’t realized this by now, your board is an important part of your organization. They are the ones who keep you accountable when it comes to your organization’s mission.
So let’s take a moment to reflect on your board’s effectiveness by asking yourself a few questions:
- Are they a good fit for your organization?
- Are they contributing to your organization’s goals and mission?
- Are they showing up ad contributing to meetings?
- Are they contributing financially?
- Are they making an impact?
Now is a good time to go over the contributions your board has/hasn’t made to your organization. If their term is up for renewal, you can reconsider their participation for the next 2-4 years and offer their seat to someone else. It’s okay to not invite someone back. Be sure to have a conversation with them first so as not to burn any bridges. Chances are they also realize that they are no longer a fit for your organization. Life happens. Interests change. People move on.
I discuss who you should invite to serve on your board in the Module 4 – Create Your Board in my “How to Start An Empowerment Program” which is available to you for free. Grab your free copy here and let’s take the first step to creating an effective board for your amazing organization.
