I’m in a good place right now and couldn’t be more happier with my organization. Part of it is because I have shifted my mindset about my program for girls and started treating it like a job and less like a hobby. The definition of “hobby” is an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation. I’ve also heard over and over that if you do that you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. Why can’t we merge the two?
That’s where I am right now.
I have successfully merged my passion, purpose and skill set into doing what I love. But why doesn’t everybody do this? I know why….they don’t know where to start. They’re afraid. It’s not the norm.
We’re told basically from birth to become a doctor, lawyer, architect, etc. but no one asked us what it was WE wanted to be. Our parents or society pushed upon us what THEY wanted us to become and that’s not cool. As a parent I have decided to carefully watch and honor the natural skills and interests of my children.
Why?
Because it makes it easier on all of us. How many times has your kid kicked and screamed because they didn’t want to go to dance? I’ll raise my hand. A lot. We’ve done it all. We’ve signed the kids up for dance, soccer, robotics, you name it. We were those parents.
As the kids became older, their interests started to emerge. My son is a baseball fanatic where he loves playing, learning, and watching the sport. He can spit baseball stats like no ones business. Our daughter loves drawing, writing books, coding, and swimming. We’re focusing on their passions and will help guide them into careers that honor them so that they feel like they will never have to work a day in their lives.
That’s why we need you out there on the ground doing the work to help propel others into greatness. Help open their eyes to other possibilities by creating programs for them while enhancing both your life and theirs. Give these dance schools and sports programs a run for their money.
If you have have the skills to teach swimming, coding, drawing, book writing, to children and adults of all ages, create a program to teach them. Not all kids are into sports and dance. You can even teach them how to open and manage a dance studio or a community sports program business.
I would have LOVED that as a kid.
You get what I’m saying?
